Private Cooking Classes

1. Kitchen Basics – Finding your way around the kitchen with ease.

My food obsession has led me to find a method of working (playing) in my kitchen that makes my time there flow with ease.

Things like:

  • How to organize my kitchen for maximum efficiency
  • What type of equipment and tools to buy (and which ones I actually use!)
  • How much food to store and what to buy fresh
  • Knife skills that save time and fingers (trust me, I’ve learned this from experience, and you don’t want to)
  • Food preparation skills like knowing the difference between things like: cut, chop, dice, mince, julienne, mix blend, puree… and when to use them
  • Cooking skills like learning the difference between: boil, broil, sauté, fry, bake, braise, simmer, poach… and when to use them too.

In “Kitchen Basics” you can learn any or all of these helpful skills to get you going on your food adventure.

My theory is that I can afford some less healthy foods in my diet every now and then as long as my basic meals are nourishing and homemade.

But the first step is getting beyond heated canned soup and mac ‘n cheese.  I love teaching people the skills that will help build the foundation for self-sustaining health.

Kale Salad2. Pantry Cooking – No more weekly meal repeats!

Following a recipe is a good skill to have, but what if you want to learn how to put together delicious healthy meals with the ingredients that you routinely find in your kitchen?  And do it in 30 minutes or less?  How helpful would it be if you could transform leftovers into something new and tasty, instead of throwing out food every week?

“Pantry Cooking” shows you how it’s possible to make several types of nourishing meals with only a few ingredients.

In this class you will learn how to:

  • Look in your fridge and pantry and put together a number of meals in minutes
  • Eat healthier meals because you control what goes into them
  • Save money by not wasting leftovers, and discovering ways to make food taste great with minimal ingredients
  • Expand your creativity and cooking skills, making food prep something you
    enjoy rather than it being a chore
  • Develop hands-on cooking skills

These classes are most effective when taught in your own home, so you can learn how to use the ingredients you have on hand.  If you do not have an already stocked pantry and fridge, it would be recommended to take the Refresh Your Kitchen session first.  Classes include information on relevant cooking and food prep techniques.  If you are a very beginner cook, I would recommend taking “Kitchen Basics – Finding your way around the kitchen with ease”, first.

Fancy plate3. Private Party Cooking Classes

I will come to your home, loaded with fresh, seasonal food, and teach you and your loved ones how to prepare delicious and healthy meals right in your own kitchen. Or you can invite a group of friends over and make a party of it!  Everyone gets in there and learns hands-on skills.

Throughout the class I will discuss various nutrition topics, whole food cooking techniques, and you will have recipes to keep once we are done. Classes focus on curiosity and fun!
